Today sees the release of the first full length clip for John Krokidas’ “Kill Your Darlings“, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ben Foster and Dane DeHaan and one of the few films left of 2013 that I am truly anticipating!
“Kill Your Darlings” throws us into the world of Allen Ginsburg (Radcliffe), Lucien Carr (DeHaan), William Burroughs (Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston), who met at Columbia University in the 1940s and began to explore the dark underbelly of New York City at the same time as they were slowly becoming the Beat generation that we know today. Michael C. Hall stars as David Kammerer, who along with Carr, was one of the lesser known historical players who nonetheless had a huge hand in ushering in the Ginsberg, Burroughs and Kerouac we know of now.
This new clip focuses on Ginsberg’s first glimpse of Carr, as during a tour of Columbia’s South Hall library, Carr interrupts to quote the restricted readings of Henry Miller. “Kill Your Darlings” will eventually leads us into the darker, more unknown parts of the Beat origin tale as we see how far these men were willing to go for each other.
As for the trailer, DeHaan is the standout (as he always is in everything!), and we can see how easily Ginsberg and the others fell under his spell. Following the excellent reviews out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, we can’t wait to hear how it plays at it’s international premiere at Venice Film Festival this week, before a wide release on October 18th.
Check out the trailer andd clip below.
