Two new clips of Daniel Radcliffe, 24, and Dane DeHaan, 26, in John Krokidas‘ “Kill Your Darlings” have been unveiled. The forthcoming drama also stars Jack Huston, Michael C. Hall, Elizabeth Olsen, Ben Foster, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kyra Sedgwick.
“Kill Your Darlings” is set during the 1940s in New York City and focuses on the rise of a young Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe), one of the great poets of the Beat Generation. At Columbia University, Ginsberg meets and forms a romance with Lucien Carr (DeHaan), a man who would become the biggest influence on Ginsberg’s life and also later be found guilty of the murder of David Kammerer (Hall). Besides the dynamic between the two, the film also explores the beginnings of the Beat Generation after Carr introduces Ginsberg to fellow poet geniuses William Burroughs (Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Huston).
In the first clip, Ginsberg and his fellow freshmen are being led in a tour of the campus’ library. As the professor boasts about the school’s most prized literature possessions, Carr makes his extravagant entrance to steal the spotlight by jumping on a table and reciting a poem by Henry Miller. While the staff is offended by his showcase, Ginsberg appears to be enthralled. In the second clip, Ginsberg and Carr seem to be having their first private conversation together. Watching these two scenes, the chemistry between the two actors is evident. You don’t doubt for a second why Ginsberg’s expressions are so captivated by this confident and charismatic young man.
At the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, Radcliffe had only praise for his up and coming co-star, DeHaan. He told Entertainment Weekly: “People are starting to realize what I’ve been saying for about a year and a half, which is that Dane DeHaan is the man to watch. He is incredibly naturally gifted but also he is one of the hardest workers that I’ve ever met, and that’s a pretty dynamic combination. I feel like in Kill Your Darlings, his performance is stunning and our relationship in the film I’m really really proud of how we got there. And I want to work with him again and hopefully we’ll find some excuse. He’s the man.”
